Cyprus Talks: pre-meeting under the auspices of UN

Ahead of the official start of meetings in Geneva tomorrow, the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mustafa Akıncı, and the Greek Cypriot leader, Nicos Anastasiades, are holding a pre-meeting this evening under the auspices of the Special Adviser of the UN Secretary-General on Cyprus, Espen Barth Eide.

Preparations for next week’s Cyprus Talks are fully on track. The discussions between Anastasiades and Akinci will continue tomorrow, picking up from their most recent discussions in Nicosia. The UN see as a positive step that they reconvene and had made some progress. UN remains committed to support the process and facilitate the discussions.

The new UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, met with Greek Foreign Minister, Nikos Kotzias, and Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu,  the Turkish Foreign Minister, at United Nations headquarters in New York as part of an effort to increase support for the UN-sponsored negotiations between Greek and Turkish Cypriot leaders to unify the divided EU island nation.

First EFSI transaction for Cypriot businesses

The European Investment Fund and RCB Bank Ltd. have signed the first EFSI agreement in Cyprus, which will provide EUR10 million to innovative small and medium-sized enterprises. This agreement benefits from the support of the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), the heart of the Juncker's Investment Plan for Europe.
