The House of Commons calls on the British Government to invoke Article 50 TEU by 31 March 2017

Last Wednesday, the House of Commons of the British Parliament passed a motion for resolution calling on the Government of Theresa May to invoke Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union to cease to be a Member of the Union by 31 March 2017.

The resolution was adopted with 448 votes in favour and 75 noes.

The Commons recognise that leaving the EU is the defining issue facing the UK and they state that they will scrutinise the British Government while respecting the decision of the British people to leave the European Union.

The British House calls on the Prime Minister to commit to publishing the Government’s plan for leaving the EU before Article 50 is invoked, recognises that it should respect the wishes of the United Kingdom as expressed in the referendum on 23 June and further calls on the Government to invoke Article 50 by 31 March 2017.
