Además precisó que, aplicando este proceso tecnológico, los ciudadanos del mundo podrán desarrollar todas sus capacidades intelectuales y humanas, es decir, la base para la creación de bienestar social en el futuro.
The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, APEC, is one of the most important regional economic groupings. Its long-standing commitment is to enhance economic growth, promote trade and create prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region. From its launch in 1989 to 2014, total APEC trade grew more than seven times, exceeding US$22 trillion, and GDP increased from US$11 trillion to US$44 trillion. With Peru hosting the APEC process in 2016, the 24th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, the forum's highest level political meeting each year is taking place in Lima.
Established in 1989 with 12 members, APEC is currently made up of 21 member economies: Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, People's Republic of China, Hong Kong (China), Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, the United States of America and Vietnam.
In 2015, EU exports of goods to APEC accounted for €0.97 trillion, or 54.3 % of total EU goods exports, while EU imports of goods from APEC amounted to €1 trillion, 61.7 % of total EU goods imports. The USA and China were the two main goods trading partners, with 18 % and 15 % of total EU trade in goods, respectively.
The European Union already has or is negotiating free trade agreements with 13 of the 21 member economies. Four of these agreements (with Chile, Mexico, Peru and South Korea) are in force or provisionally applied. An example of EU-APEC cooperation is on cross-border data transfer rules. In the EU, Binding Corporate Rules (BCR) control international data transfers made by businesses. A system based on a similar approach, the Cross-Border Privacy Rules (CBPR) system, was developed in 2012 by APEC member economies. In 2014, EU and APEC experts adopted a common referential which serves to help international companies operating in both the EU and the Asia-Pacific region with data protection compliance.
