Simone Veil
In July 1979 Simone Veil became the first President of the European Parliament and the first female President since the Parliament was created in 1952. Did you know how many of the 30 Presidents since 1952 were women? The answer is - only two! Simone Veil and Nicole Fontaine (elected in 1999).
